Call Fowarding Your Telephone

Many people want their telephones to forward to voice mail when their line is busy or goes unanswered. If you would like this type of service, you must call your local telephone company and order a feature known as "Call Forwarding on Busy or No Answer." This feature usually only costs a couple of dollars per month. You must provide them with your ten-digit DVM voice mail number as the forward to number.

With this service, your calls will forward automatically to your DVM voice mailbox when your line is busy or when you do not answer your line within a predetermined number of rings.

Some people prefer to use their voice mailbox as their listed, direct dial telephone number. They return the messages left by callers. Most people will not recognize when a telephone is not directly attached to a voice mailbox.

Another call forwarding technique is Call Forwarding Variable. Your telephone company provides this service, and it lets you forward all calls to your DVM voice mailbox by dialing an activation code. You can then cancel the forwarding by dialing a cancellation code. This technique is most commonly used for after hours messaging.

One word of caution: please be sure that you will ALWAYS remember to activate the Call Forwarding feature when you leave the location of your telephone. Otherwise, you may miss important messages. Our recommendation is to use the permanent-type feature for Call Forwarding on Busy or No Answer. It is usually less expensive than the Varible one, and it will always operate as it should.

If you have a PBX, use the forwarding technique appropriate for you system. This is typically a trunk-to-trunk transfer approach during the day and a straight forwarding operation for after hours. Call us if you have questions.
